Pre-BA Jewellery Design

设计是为打破传统而生。当人们提及首饰时, 先浮现在眼前的是商场里琳琅满目光彩夺目的钻石与水晶,而当代首饰却鲜为人知。作为一名首饰学习者,我期许自己每次的作品都能带来新的概念与新的制作工艺在内。

以美学的角度,那些能吸引到我的作品往往是在复杂的结构后有规律可循,而艺术家追求着简约而不简单的创作思想。比如我上个学期末的作品,每一年是一次轮回,人们马不停碲地忙于那些枯燥的工作中。我希望人们的生活能与我做的圆一样,在轮回中增加更多乐趣与不寻常。此外,自然生物也是我创作的主要灵感来源,例如珊瑚与橄榄树。

在我上一个作品《骨感美》中,第一灵感来源于一位美国光学艺术家—James Turrell。他善于用光创造空间。看完他的展后,我不禁发问“那光能创造珠宝吗?” 近年,浸没式艺术逐渐盛行。那有没有当代首饰艺术家已经运用于此了呢?

在制作过程中,再尝了各种各样的光源后,我选择了荧光剂来完成这次作品,这种粉末适用于工业加工。创新不止于单纯的新想法,更要尝试突破常规材料的使用方法。我将荧光剂和树脂的混合物刷在亚克力表层,能使亚克力发出夜光。这次美中不足的是上色环节。倘若以后还有机会,我会尝试更多的上色方法并提升整个概念。

 

Design is born for breaking the custom in the traditional impression. When people think of jewellery, they usually picture in their mind a variety of jewellery bands that decorate with diamond and crystal. Conversely, few people know the contemporary jewellery. As a jewellery designer, I aim to experiment with risk crazy ideas and new making approaches.

In the view of aesthetic, what really appeals to me is the regularity behinds a complex structure, artists perusing contracted but not simple as well. In the first semester, I found each year could present as a circle because everyone repeats his or her similar works. Then, my purpose is to call on resting ourselves and do something different next year. Moreover, nature is also one of my main sources of inspiration, such as coral and olive. 

In my last work “Bony or Beautiful”, in the beginning I was inspired by James Turrell who was a American artist concerned with light and space. On the way backing from his retrospective exhibition, I was wondering what would the mixture of light and jewellery look like? Since immersed art has been popular these years, did any jewellery artist use this kind of new art form in his or her own work? The first step prepared for innovation is a fascination of curiosity.

During the making process, I chose fluorescent, which is a kind of powder used widely in industry as the highlights of the whole work. Innovation is not only come up with a new idea, but also explore other uses of traditional materials. I brush the mixture of fluorescent and resin on the surface of the acrylic pieces in order to make it shining in the dark. Despite the unevenly appearance, I mostly satisfied with my thoughts this time. If given the chance, I will do differently in dyeing and fathering the concept.
