Inspired by the disasters in Japan this year, I combined the legend of the Little Mermaid with the results of nuclear radiation. I think that maybe in the real world, mermaids are just fishes, being mutated by radiation.

I made 4 anatomy diagrams describing the process of a creature’s development to convince people of the changes through a scientific approach. To enhance this thought, I made the drawings look very old so that they appear to be historical documents, which state that the mutation evolved many years ago already.

By doing so, I want to tell people that if mankind does not take every single life on Earth seriously and keeps doing things that might hurt life, such as building more power plants and factories, then we will regret what we have done in the future.

I chose the Pacific Saury as the mutant-fish because it is one of the most popular sources in the Japanese cuisine and it has a great economic importance in the North Pacific area.

The first diagram shows a healthy Saury fish without any signs of mutation. The second one shows a fish with developed organs, even though there is no visible change in its general appearance. Characteristics of human beings begin to form in the 3rd fish. In the last diagram, the fish looks more human like and its organs have also “humanized”.

22世紀的人發現了秋刀魚突變進化為美人魚的過程解剖圖。秋刀魚成為美人魚的祖先，起源於2011年一次嚴重的輻射污染。這樣的秋刀魚有人敢吃嗎？長的像人一樣吃的時候會不安吧，覺得自己很像變態。有人臉的秋刀魚就算吃了也會為了會不會有食物中毒,慢性病或是靈魂會不會變質而忐忑吧。連如此乾淨的秋刀魚都變成這樣了，那太平洋西岸的其他生物會長成怎樣呢？那片海域還能生活嗎？

日本的一大經濟魚類就此成為歷史，真的很可惜啊。請多想想烤秋刀魚擠上檸檬汁的滋味。

透過此圖我想說很多動物明明沒有做錯事卻爲了人類的利益走向滅絕的宿命，對他們來講真的很不公平。希望人類警醒捍衛我們的地球，對環境多用心並且為自己做的事情負責任。爲了更具說服力，採用了考古科學形式傳達我的想法。
