The ‘Tough’ series is based on the idea of different people having different personalities. For me, one important characteristic in the personality of a human being is the display of strength. Especially people living in a big city are asked to perform and live their lives in a strong manner, in order to master the challenges they have to encounter on a daily basis.

Common materials, which demonstrate strong characteristics are stone or steel. In my pieces, I wanted to work with a more diverse background and I decided to work with the imagery of the plum flower. In ancient China, the plum flower that was treasured for its ability to bloom, even in the toughest circumstances. Although the flower looks very fragile, it demonstrates an intense will to survive.

My pieces demonstrate the struggle of surviving but also the rewards of not giving up.

我想通过这个系列的作品来体现不同的人所具有的不同的性格。也正是这些具有差异的个体（拥有不同性格的人）组成了我们生活的社会和城市。在这些形形色色的性格中，我最想表现的是坚强的性格。在我看来坚强是一个必不可少的性格，尤其是对于那些生活在大都市的人们来说。因为生活在大都市的人们时常需要面对不同的挑战，然而坚强的性格正是不可缺少的重要因素。

每当我们讨论到坚强的时候，我能首先出现在脑海中的都是一些坚硬的物质。比如像钢铁或岩石，更有人用某种坚硬的钢铁来给自己命名从而体现自己内心的坚强。但是我更趋向于使用一种看上去柔软更富有感情色彩的材料或事物来表现人们坚强的性格。我发现我国古代的哲学思想认为梅花象征坚韧不拔，不折不挠，奋勇当先，自强不息的精神品质。梅花是具有强大而普遍的感染力和推动力的事物。所以我决定将梅花作为一个元素结合到我的设计中。

我的整个的作品作品中充实着多种的对比，像银白色的小花和萌芽与粗糙焦黑的木质底板的对比。这一个个刻意营造出的对比和冲突是为了让观众在欣赏作品的同时感叹生命的美好和生命所处的环境的艰苦。从而体会到生命的坚强，人性的坚强。
