I explore the relationship between contemporary jewellery with our bodies through traditional Chinese food therapy and its utensils.

‘Body cultivation’ is an important concept in both philosophy and Chinese medicine. It promotes the balance of yin and yang through carefully planned diets, enhances not only the health of our inner body, but also glorifies our appearances and spirits. This concept echoes the existence of contemporary jewellery, which functions to the wearer as an expression and even an identity.

I experimented with organic materials such as horns, shells, and bones in my artwork. Those materials are living creatures, or creatures that used to be alive that exemplifies my ideas of the continuous cycle that moves through our bodies.

我思考首饰佩戴的目的性，如果说佩戴首饰的目的，是佩戴者希望自己在整个社会群体中变成更有魅力的个体，并且可以触发观看者对“美”的感受。由此，我选择从中国传统出发。

“盖大德者小物必勤，抑养和者摄生必谨。”

在传统道学的思想中，养生的理想状态是通过规律的生活和饮食习惯，达到与自然的和谐，天人合一，不以物喜，不以己悲。那么这样一种温润的气质也可以使与之相处的人感受到一种平和，侘寂之美。我认为这样围绕在周身的气质，亦是首饰。

我参阅了古籍食谱，拜访江南古地。在扬州，苏州等地，寻到了中国统手工艺，诸如苏绣，漆器，剪纸，脂粉，昆曲，木雕……几经思量，最终选定以“食疗”为主线，以“漆，螺钿，珠贝和扬州之间的关系”为副线来开展我的作品。希望可以通过草本药材和食材，还有中国传统漆器，来诠释这一在中医和道家思想中关于“以食养身，养心，养性”的概念。
